First, some helpful definitions:
intellectual - Of or relating to the intellect. (n) a person of superior intellect. Intellectual implies not only having a high degree of understanding, but also a capacity and taste for the higher forms of knowledge
intellect - The ability to learn and reason; the capacity for knowledge and understanding.
anti-intellectual - Opposed or hostile to intellectuals or intellectual views. (In other words, opposed to the ability to learn and reason, and against those with the capacity to grow in knowledge and understanding.)
Now here's a great example of anti-intellectualism from Jesus-is-Lord.com (thanks to Kelly for pointed it out): THE BASIC SCIENTIFIC ARGUMENTS FOR GEOCENTRICITY

I'm beginning to believe that there are some people who actually believe the sun AND the earth, and the moon and the stars and all the other planets actually revolve around themselves.
Never having been accused of being an intellectual, I am perfectly content to continue to believe that the earth is in motion.
By the way, I just caught up reading here and wanted to tell you I liked the post on the Commandments.
Yikes! I've just visited two Catholic sites to do some research. What I've found indicates that there have been at least three popes who have stated that "geocentrism" is the official position of the Catholic Church based on interpretation of scripture. Hmmm! Also, I read a thread about the subject on a Catholic forum which confirms the info. at scripturecatholic.com although, I haven't yet been able to tell if I'm maybe teetering on the brink of being unfaithful to the magisterium. I guess that means I'll have to do some serious research into this subject. I wish I cared a little more about the outcome.

LOL. Yeah, me too!

Thanks!
I had no idea the RCC was officially "geocentric"! I am very surprised... I suspect if the J-I-L crowd learn of this they will suddenly change "positions" to a sun-centered solar system.:-)
In reading about this topic I learned a new word: heliocentric- a sun-centered galaxy.
:)
Sue Bee,
I am still not certain of the "official" Catholic position. When I determine it, I'll update you. I suspect I'm not the only Catholic in the dark about this issue.
I had (and still do have) only the most rudimentary understanding of geocentrism and heliocentrism. My first introduction to the concept came at about age four when my mother first began her harangue about "the world DOES NOT revolve around you."
Not being scientifically inclined, and trusting the Lord enough to "know" I wouldn't fall off the face of the earth, I've been content to recognize that it matters not what I know about these scientific matters as my knowledge certainly wouldn't change things, one way or the other.
I do agree with your thought that if this "Catholic position" were common knowledge, we might see some people running rapidly to the opposite extreme to avoid any perceieved affiliation or dogmatic accord. Ha!
