Snakes Alive!

When I heard churches called "snake handling" I thought they must be joking. I guess it is no joke:

Religious snake-handlers busted in Kentucky

I've got a new favorite quote (from the last paragraph of the article): "You can purchase anything off the Internet except common sense."

You can say THAT again!

My other favorite quote from the article:

"A venomous snake isn't a pet. You don't play with it. If you do, you're an idiot."

Well, they're not called "snake handling," they're usually called "Church of Jesus Christ With Signs Following." And they're usually in storefronts. Frankfort is a bigger town, though. I thought they were usually in rural areas.

They drink arsenic, too. They didn't mention that in the article, though.

Try reading Salvation on Sand Mountain, by Dennis Covington.

My library has that book, I'll look for it next time I'm there.

Lucky you! My library never has any really interesting books. People vote to cut their budget any chance they get.

Just goes to show that reading the Bible with no help from sound doctrine can be rather dangerous.

or picking out one verse and building an entire doctrine from it can be dangerous.

I am adding you to my blogroll later - hope that's ok.

Thanks, Sara! It's been tough finding blogging time lately - the weather is too nice (if that is possible).
